Talk focuses on white racial identity here
CHARLO – The Flathead Reservation Human Rights Coalition will host Humanities Montana Speakers Bureau program “Very White? A Conversation About White Racial Identity in Montana” with Tobin Miller Shearer on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
The free program will be at Mission Valley UMC, 70715 Hwy 93, top of Post Creek Hill, with a potluck at 6 p.m. and conversation at 7 p.m.
This interactive presentation invites participants to consider what it means to be white in a white majority state.
Does the prejudice assumption of white privilege count where few people of color live or have been isolated on reservations? How do we talk about racial identity in meaningful ways that deal with real issues but don’t leave all involved feeling helpless or hurt?
Shearer guides a conversation about race in Montana that strives to leave participants with greater confidence and insight regardless of the audience’s racial identity.
