Arlee gridders remain undefeated
Whitefish 28, Polson 0
At Polson, the visiting Bulldogs pounced on the host Pirates as they planted their paws in the end zone every quarter. The rain being referenced wasn’t that of a liquid variety, but rather an allusion to the passing of Whitefish QB Luke May who precipitated football tosses down upon the Polson secondary.
While the shutout was disconcerting, all was not bleak for the Pirates. Their level of play improved immensely from last week against Frenchtown. The last touchdown betrayed a lapse in containment the final minute of the game which otherwise would have ended 21-0.
On a brighter side of the spectrum, Polson did score a touchdown when QB Wyatt Ducharme found WR Jacob Harrod in the end zone at about the 9 minute mark in the 3rd quarter, but rejoicing was short lived as the play was negated on account of a holding penalty.
Harrod reeled in another reception in the last 2 minutes of the third period when he intercepted a Luke May pass within the 5 yd line. Had he been playing with a green & yellow jersey, he would have taken the catch in for a score. But since he plays for the purple & gold, Harrod had to plant to start reversing field in the other direction. A couple of other bright spots defensively were a fumble recovery by LB Joe Gallatin at about the 10 minute juncture of the third quarter and a Tim Russell fumble recovery at about the 7 minute mark of the final period.
The Pirates were also knocking at the door around the 4 minute juncture of the final period. With a 4th down and 5 yds to go, Polson had little option but to go for broke. Ducharme found Russell for the necessary yardage and then some to keep the drive alive, but it would stall later when another 4th down had the pass fall incomplete.
Had the initial Pirate score in the third period held up and they found pay dirt in the fourth period, the game could easily have been 21-14 and well within striking distance.
Polson (0-2, 2-4) travels to Libby this Friday in an effort to pick up their first conference win.

At Ronan, the host Chiefs struck first against the visiting 6B Wardens in the first period, then kept them within striking range through the third period before Deer Lodge broke loose from their shackles to put the game away. matchup:
Charlo at Arlee
The Arlee Homecoming football game this Friday has been shaping up all season long to become one of those firework shows that promises to fill the scoreboard with a number of points. Much like Independence Day showcases, the Arlee air will likely be filled with a number of oblong flying projectiles launched both short distances as well as long bombers. Those pounding the ground will try to start their own blazes with thundering stampedes as both teams seek to establish their ground game. A safety shy of 500 points have been scored between the two teams thus far this season. The outcome of the game will bear upon playoff seeding.
Flint Creek 52, Charlo 6
At Charlo during Homecoming, the visiting Phillipsburg area coop Titans knocked around backup quarterback Trent Dennison, sending him to the sideline for the remainder of the first half and capitalized upon his absence by finding the endzone a quartet of times before intermission. Dennison was able to return in the third period and made his presence felt connecting with Kobe Cox for six. But the Huskies countered his efforts with another score, then added insult to injury to Homecoming festivities by returning an interception for another score. Charlo (4-1) travels to Arlee for another Western division showdown.
