Charlo battles past St. Ignatius

Charlo 3, St. Ignatius 1

At St. Ignatius this past Saturday, the visiting 10C Lady Vikings crossed classifications to tangle with the paws of the host 6B Lady Bulldogs and sailed off with the booty of a victory.  Once Charlo took the first set, Mission responded in kind to knot things up by taking the second set.  The Lady Vikings then cranked their offense up another gear, taking the final pair of sets which both teams battled with one another into the 20s.

Charlo (7-1, 8-2) will have already hosted visiting St. Regis this past Tuesday, then travel to Noxon on Thursday.  Mission (2-2, 4-6) will have already engaged in a cross county, cross classification clash at Arlee this Tuesday past, then travels to 6B Deer Lodge on Saturday.

At Florence last Thursday, the visiting Lady Bulldogs couldn’t avoid the talons of the undefeated host Lady Falcons, falling in straight sets.  Emilie Charlo and Sydney Castor collaborated on a half dozen kills and Charlo stuffed a trio of blocks, but Mission was unable to fare better against Florence than any other team thus far this season.  District 6B Mission (2-2, 4-5) hosted a visit from 10C Charlo on Saturday.

At Charlo last Thursday, the host Lady Vikings engaged in a cross county clash with the visiting Lady Eagles of Two Eagle River and prevailed in straight sets.   Mikaylan Roylance served up a quintet of aces as sell as dished out a dozen assists.  That set the table for Cheyenne Nagy and Sienna Brown, who collaborated on 9 kills.  Two Eagle was led by Tyra Michel who rolled the perfect number with 7 kills as well as 7 aces.  Down by two sets, Two Eagle battled valiantly in the third set before the Lady Vikings laid the match to rest.  Charlo (7-1, 7-2) traversed cross classification to face off against 6B Mission last Saturday.  Two Eagle (0-7) traveled over to Hot Springs last Saturday.

At Charlo the last Tuesday of September, the host Lady Vikings handily dispatched the visiting Lady Bobcats in the first two sets, but found that felines can still be ferocious when cornered.  The third set forced into extras with the visitors prevailing.  The final set was much closer than the first pair, but Charlo contained the claws of the cantankerous Cats to take the final set and the match to gain ground in their foothold among District 10C.  Charlo (6-1, 6-2) went cross county to face Two Eagle River last Thursday.

At Pablo this past Saturday in a cross county clash, the visiting Scarlets spread the offense around to sweep the host Lady Eagles in straight sets.  Two Eagle kept Arlee within range as they played the first set, but could not quell the momentum thereafter.   Quintets seemed to be the preferred number in this contest with a trio of Scarlets and a pair of Lady Eagles each spiking 5 kills apiece.  Arlee (6-1, 7-2) will have contended in a cross classification clash with Mission this Tuesday past.  Two Eagle (0-9) takes flight over to Superior on Saturday.

At  Arlee last Thursday, the host Scarlets jumped out to a two set lead before the visiting Lady Bobcats put up more of a fight.  Superior captured the third set, then almost pushed the fourth set into extras before the Scarlets were able to put the game away and take the match.  Becca Whitesell was the quintessential hostess, dishing out assist after assist to accommodate her teammates who were more than willing to oblige.  Arlee (5-1, 6-2) engaged nex in a cross county clash with Two Eagle River.

At Ronan for homecoming this past Thursday, the host Maidens rose to the occasion and locked down the visiting Lady Wardens.  Posting their first win in District 6B didn‘t come without its challenges as Deer Lodge took the first match.  That initial loss seemed to raise the hackles of the Maidens, who proceeded to sweep the subsequent games in straight sets by an average of 10 points.  On offense, Sydnee Clairmont spiked a dozen kills while Dani Richwine served up a quintet of aces.  Jordyn Clairmont turned in a baker’s dozen assists, while at the defensive end, both Kendra Starkel as well as Richwine scooped up 20 digs apiece.  Ronan (1-3, 3-7) has a pair of 7B road games against Troy on Thursday and Thompson Falls on Saturday, then hosts undefeated 6B Florence this upcoming Tuesday.

At Plains last Tuesday, the visiting 6B Maidens tamed the host 7B Lady Trotters in straight sets.  Kendra Starkel and McKenzie Dulmes combined to spike 20 kills while Starkel, Sydnee Clairmont and Dani Richwine collaborated to served up 20 of the team two dozen aces.  Ronan extends its record to 2-7 overall.

At Stevensville, the visiting Lady Pirates took the sting out of the host Lady Yellowjackets behind the hurricane wind-like windup of Haley Fyant and the collective contribution of Nicole Lake, Taylor Rost and Chadelle Smith together combined for 32 spikes to exceed the entire output of host Stevensville.

The high velocity windup of Fyant reached category 3 levels to cause devastating damage with 11 kills.  Jaiden Toth set the table with 29 assists.  Libby Clay posted a match high 20 digs, while Toth, Lydia  Dupuis, Sarah Rausch and Skyla Krantz combined to excavate out another 56 digs before the ball could hit the floor.  The Lady Pirates had been swept by Stevensville at the NWAvsSWA Tip-Off by identical 21-25 scores, so team LP has shown some development in the past couple of weeks.

At Polson, the visiting 6B Loyola Sacred Heart Breakers ventured up the classification ladder and capsized the host NWA Lady Pirates in straight sets.   Visiting Loyola entered the contest having only lost one match to undefeated Florence.  Haley Fyant, Taylor Rost, Jaiden Toth and Nicole Lake combined for 16 kills.

Toth added 18 assists and 16 digs for the Pirates.
