Historical Society president resigns
LAKE COUNTY – With a deep sense of appreciation and honor after serving for over 16 years, Flathead Reservation Area Historical Society, President Joyce Decker Wegner is resigning her office and membership on the Board. With the two-volume Lake County School History completed, sales in good shape, and archiving proceeding well, this retired Lake County Superintendent of Schools turns over her historical office at the upcoming Tuesday, Oct. 21, Annual Meeting.
“This has been a lifetime joy, but it is time for me to focus on other long-postponed projects and ‘really retire’ here in our log home in the Swan Valley,” she said. “New blood closer to the center of The Mission Valley needs to step-up to lead FRA’s goal to ‘assist people to understand our collective past and work together to achieve a better future.”
The public is invited to join and attend the 10 a.m. meeting of the Flathead Reservation Area Historical Society on Tuesday, October 21, in the Large Conference Room of the Lake County Courthouse. Representatives of local Museums and Library Boards are always encouraged to participate. Archiving and publication of society resources, continued local book sales, and developing regional book sales will be on the Old Business Agenda.
We will be taking a moment to remember Jessie Clemans, former Board member and original member of both our Lake County Country School Historians and FRA Historical Society. Jessie worked energetically and tirelessly alongside so many of us. She is deeply missed. Our sympathy to her family.
With Wegner’s retirement and other changes, there are openings on the board. There will be an election of Board of Directors immediately following Old Business with position openings for 3-yr, 2-yr., or 1-yr. terms.
Please call Vice-President Gale Decker at (406) 676-3033 if you know of persons interested in serving on the Board. Members may make nominations from the floor at the annual meeting. Membership is always open with annual fees payable to the treasurer prior to the opening of the meeting. Membership allows voting at all meetings. New officers will conduct the remainder of the meeting leading the setting of new projects.
