Lake County 3-year-old shot to death

RONAN (AP) — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a 3-year-old boy died of a gunshot wound suffered at a residence in the Ninepipes area between Ronan and St. Ignatius.

Undersheriff Dan Yonkin said the boy was shot in the torso at about 8:22 p.m. Wednesday. He was taken to the hospital in Ronan, where he later died.

Yonkin says the boy was shot with a small-caliber gun. His body was taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

Officers have detained a man for questioning and are interviewing witnesses. No arrests had been made by Thursday morning.

Officials have not released any names.
