County claims 2 All-State XC runners

At Helena this past Saturday. the cross-country teams from all classifications wrapped up their Fall season with the State meet held at the Bill Roberts Golf Course.

Mission Valley area schools had a number of personal best performances turned in. but the brightest lights shone on a pair of runners who earned all-state honors when they both finished among the top 15.

In the Class A girls race. Polson freshman Ryan Harrop seemingly shifted into another gear as she moved through the field the final mile to earn her all-state accolade with a 7th place finish. in the process cracking the 20 minute barrier for the first time this season.  Among freshman racers. Harrop would have placed 2nd .

In the class C boys race. Charlo senior Dalton Delaney thrashed the 18 minute threshold with a mid-17s performance to place 8th . thereby earning his all-state recognition.

The Polson XC girls team finished just out of the medal round with a 4th place team score. placing a quartet of runners among the top 50.  Sophomore Izabella Seemann clocked a personal best to place 20th. while freshman Malia Seeley placed 24th overall. but would have finished 4th among freshman runners exclusively.  Both Anna Young and Quinn Motichka rounded out the scoring by placing among the top 50.  The remaining Lady Pirate runners both turned in solid runs.  Sophomore Hannah Madsen clocked a sub-23 for a new personal best. while Sierra Garcia turned in a sub-24 for the 4th time this season.

The Polson XC boys team finished among the teens in 17th place. led by freshman Zach Evertz who turned in a sub-18.  The remaining Polson boys who factored into the scoring all turned in sub-20 minute performances with Thunder Morales. Warren Wood and Matt Sitter all placing among the top 100.  Both Quaid Harlan and Wyatt Benson clocked sub-20s. while Grant Clark rounded out the field with a sub-21.

In the class B girls race. the Ronan XC girls team placed 12th. while a pair of runners competed individually for St. Ignatius.  Ronan place a half dozen runners among the top 100. led by a 40th place finish by Penni Weyant.  Rounding out the scoring for the Maidens with sub-24s were Tashyna Matt. Kaitlyn Sassaman. Hallie Henderson and Sarah McKenzie.  Katelyn Graham and Ysabelle Burland rounded out the field for Ronan. while Shaniya Decker and Tori Peterson posted good times for St. Ignatius.

In the class B boys race. the Ronan XC boys team placed 17th overall. while St. Ignatius had a lone runner in Tate Weingart.  Ronan placed a pair with sub-18s among the top 50 in Jackson Duffey and Daniel Koehler.  while Weingart of St. Ignatius was just a few seconds behind them to place 41st overall.   Nate Dennis clocked a sub-19 for the Chiefs. while another trio from Ronan turned in sub-20s to place sequentially in the mid-80s among the top 100.  Rounding out the field for Ronan was Andrew Koehler. who was just a few seconds off the pace from sliding under the 20 minute threshold himself.

In the Class C girls race. Arlee placed 12th in the team scoring with a pair of runners among the top 50. while the pair of Charlo runners both placed among the top 50 for the Lady Vikings.  Becca Whitesell of Arlee posted the best time among Class C Mission Valley runners with a 19th place finish overall. followed by Arlee’s Amelia North with a 34th place finish.  Rounding out the scoring for the Scarlets were Ali North and Naomi Plant.  Both of the Charlo girls. Devi Knutson and Aislyn Love.  placed among the top 50 with mid-24 minute numbers.

In the Class C boys race. Charlo placed 11th and Arlee placed 17th among the team scoring.

Viking senior Dalton Delaney became Charlo’s first ever all-state accolade recipient with his 8th place finish in the state meet with a sub-18.  With the Charlo football team idle that weekend. Viking Kyle Couture traded in his pigskin toting duties for some huffing and puffing on a golf course and posed a nice sub-20 finish in the process.  Dugan Runkel rounded out the Viking contingent with a sub-22 performance.  Charlo XC coach Brett Thompson commented that the group was a pleasure to work with and he hopes that the success the team experienced will boost interest in competing in the sport over the years to come.

The Arlee XC boys team had a quartet of runners compete for the Warriors.  Parker Holz was must a mere few seconds off the pace from turning in a sub-20 performance in the state meet. while teammates Chase Wile. Ivory Brien and Sequoia Wiley rounded out the scoring for the Arlee contingent.
