Warriors fall in battle of the unbeatens

Flint Creek 46, Arlee 16

At Drummond, the visiting Arlee Warriors and the host Trojans engaged in a battle of the unbeaten to wrangle who would wear the Western C 8-man football crown.

After a scoreless first period, Arlee was able to strike first when Patrick BigSam broke loose inside the redzone and a PAT run pulled the Warriors ahead 8-0

The Warriors continued to chip away and eventually succeeded in cutting into the lead when Tyler Tanner hauled in a 6 yard pass from Riley Rogers to make it 26-14 after the 2pt conversion fizzled.

Flint Creek countered with another score of their own, to which Arlee was able to respond by getting a safety in the end zone to close the gap to 30-16.

But Flint Creek tallied twice more to account for the final score.

Arlee (6-1, 7-1) captures the Western 2nd-seed and will face Northern 3rd-seeded Great Falls Central Catholic this Saturday with the winner advancing to the next round. On the season after cobbling together some factoids with a little math, Rogers has tossed for 25 touchdowns this season and his main backfield mate BigSam has rumbled for 19 on the ground.

 St. Ignatius 40, Troy 20

At Troy this past Friday, the visiting Bulldogs rumbled for a pair of touchdowns in the first period and never looked back. Raymond Matt thundered into the end zone four times and almost gained 200 yards in the game. Steven Bravo scored twice, once on the ground and the other from the air.

Mission St. Ignatius (2-2, 5-4) was situated to head to the playoffs as the 6B 2nd-seed, but league leading Deer Lodge had to travel to tangle with two-time defending champion Loyola on the host Rams turf. The Wardens had the lead in the first quarter, to which Loyola responded by tying the game before halftime. After a scoreless third period, Loyola was able to find the end zone and hold on to the end of the game. The Loyola win coupled with the Deer Lodge loss completely scrambled the standings, bumping Mission from a playoff perch as the Wardens slid a slot to replace them.

 C. Falls 43,

Polson 6

At Polson on Senior Night Friday, the host Pirates not only had a tough task before them of trying to contain a volatile Wildcat offense. They also needed to beat their visitors by 21 to qualify for the postseason playoffs.

Two plays later, junior QB Wyatt Ducharme connected with sophomore WR Matt Rensvold about 10 yards off the line of scrimmage and Rensvold outraced the defensive coverage on his way to the end zone for a 6-0 Polson lead.

But the Pirates were shut out the rest of the way.

Along with the competitive first quarter, there were other highlights to call attention to on this Senior Night. Seniors Joe Gallatin and Kaleb Auld had some key drive stuffing stops in their final prep game. Senior WR/DB Andrew Curley and RB/LB Bridger Rowley likewise had a pair of tackles each as well.

Charlo playoff preview

(3W) Charlo at (2N) Simms on Sat. Nov. 1.

Although they may be seeded higher than Charlo (4-3), the Vikings should match up well enough against their foe.

Charlo offense has amassed 1306 yds on the ground this season in contrast to 852 yds through the air. The offense has been fairly balanced, scoring 17 TDs on the ground and 16 TDs through the air. A lone TD was scored on a kickoff return.

On the other side lies the defensive spectrum, where the Vikings have made over 400 tackles this season, 129 solo and 276 assisted. They’ve plucked 11 interceptions out of the air from opposing quarterbacks and had half a dozen fumble recoveries. The defense has also contributed to the scoring coffers with 1 TD scored off a fumble recovery and a pair off interception returns.
