Old Person evades court again; warrant issued

In 2011, Georgina Old Person pled guilty to writing 28 bad checks to local merchants using Glacier Bank checks. But even though she was only sentenced to 20 days in jail and restitution for her crimes, Old Person served 11 days, asked for a release to see her doctor, and disappeared into society.

Three years later, authorities have issued repeated warrants for Old Person’s arrest, checked her into chemical dependency treatment programs, arrested and released her repeatedly.

For her remaining nine days of un-served time, Lake County District Court Judges have ruled, court staff has processed paperwork; law enforcement officials have made arrests; Lake County Jail has processed, probation and chemical dependency staff has failed at least a dozen times.

On June 25, 2014, Lake County District Court Judge James A. Manley warned Old Person that if she did not keep in touch with her court-appointed legal counsel she could be charged with bail jumping. He then ordered Old Person to three years in the Department of Corrections, to be deferred if Old Person serves 20 days in Lake County Jail within three months of her sentencing. Old Person was given 25 days to pay back her creditors.

After agreeing to terms, Old Person disappeared.

On July 20 a Montana Highway Patrol officer stopped Old Person and found her to have a .12 blood alcohol level.

On July 30 Old Person did not report to prison as requested.

She missed her Aug. 13 court hearing and a warrant was issued. On Aug. 27 her attorney reported that she had disappeared.

None of her creditors were paid.
