POLSON – The City of Polson is working with utility companies and emergency services to clean up and rehabilitate alleyways, easements and rights of ways for safety and navigation issues.

These pro-active partnerships also allowed the agencies to discover encroachment issues on city easements and rights of ways.  As a result, city staff will be completing an inventory and condition assessment of all alleys, right of ways and easements within the city limits of Polson.

Some of the issues we will be looking at are:

•  Vegetation growing over fences or from yards out into the alley right of way

•  Vegetation and woody debris piles stacked in the alleys or on right of ways and easements

•  Trash, appliances, vehicles and other encroaching items

After completion of this inventory, city staff will be developing a priority list and will be notifying residents of their responsibilities in regards to the alleyways and rights of ways.

In conjunction with the Fall Cleanup Days, Friday Sept. 12 and Monday, Sept. 15, the city is asking residents to check their alleyways and city right of ways for encroachment issues and to remove all vegetation that is growing out into the alleys or onto the easements.  Please stack all trimmed vegetation, downed branches and other woody debris next to the street for city staff to pick up.  We ask that all small debris such as leaves or grass be placed in trash bags for easier pickup.

In accordance with Polson Municipal Code, it is the duty of the owner, agent, occupant, or lessee of property to keep premises free of litter, rubbish, garbage and unkept foliage.

City officials need residents to remove trash, garbage, appliances and vehicles from alleys, easements or right of ways.

If the encroachment issues are not removed within 10 days of notification, city staff will remove any encroaching items and will charge the property owners with the cost of this removal.

Any questions should be directed to Karen Sargeant, Parks Director at 249-5123. Let’s all work together to make Polson a great place to live, work and play.
