Woman loses lunch, not life

POLSON – A woman more interested in eating lunch than driving lost her meal and hercar after she ran off the road and over-corrected twice Sept. 4.

The accident occurred at around 2 p.m. shortly after the unnamed driver left the McDonald’s drive-thru in Polson, Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Randy Owens said.

The distracted woman was attempting to maneuver the right-hand curve by Mc Donald’s and the Polson Bay Golf Course when she first veered off the road to the right and onto a slope leading to the Polson Bay Golf Course where the Polson High School golf team was playing along with golf teams from four other high schools.

The driver over corrected her mistake and shot across the northbound side of Highway 93, then over corrected again, which sent her back to the golf course green, Owens said.

The driver and her SUV then flipped into the air traveling a few hundred feet and ultimately landed facing the opposite direction, trapping the driver inside.  The Jeep came to rest in an open area above a teebox.

Rescuers extracted the driver, who suffered only  minor injuries, Owens said.
