Mercer Toes Trifecta, Tallies Tandem

At Frenchtown on Thursday , the visiting Pirates had their most productive goal scoring game of the season, tying the game up twice after trailing both times, but a last minute PK by the Broncs broke out of the corral of a 3-3 deadlock.   Polson netted the first equalizer when Alex Helgeson scored off an assist from Mike Mercer.  After Frenchtown picked up two more goals before intermission, Mercer “the Mechanic” plied his tradecraft again, booting sequential goals off assists dished by Jonah Kasnitz to knot the game up once again with ten minutes of play remaining.  A tie was in the making but for an untimely foul on a through ball that set up the penalty kick.  After coming within inches several times last season, Mercer not only netted his first varsity career goal, but he doubled the pleasure and then some.   Coach Jess Kittle was also pleased by the defensive savvy of sweeper Jaben Wenzel and the attack acumen of Drew Hanson.   Now a quarter of the way through their schedule, the Pirates have almost scored as many goals as they did the entirety of last season, the uptick attributed to spreading the wealth around to create a wider array of weaponry.   Polson (0-3) will have already tangled with Whitefish up north in their first conference clash of the season, then host the Bigfork Vikings in the late homecoming game on Thursday.

Lady Bucs bust Broncs, bang bountiful boot-y

At Frenchtown on Thursday, Sep. 11, the visiting Lady Pirates tallied an early trio and stayed on the attack the remainder of the game against the host Lady Broncs, bolstered by a lopsided 31-6 shot-on-goal differential.  Sarah Howell assisted Marina Mayorga for the first score, then acquired her own Pirate booty before the half that sandwiched a Tiara Duford tally between two slices of soccer savvy.  A little frosting was added to the cake by the “tres amigas” senior captains when Linnea Madsen contributed a secondary assist to set up Howell on a breakaway, who then dished the ball to an open Keely Clairmont to account for the final tally.  The Pirates (2-1) traveled to Whitefish this past Tuesday for their first conference clash, then host the Bigfork Vals on Thursday in the early game of a homecoming doubleheader.
