Frenchtown 3, Polson 1

At Polson on Thursday Sept. 11, the host Pirates were able to keep the visiting Lady Broncs penned up in an enclosure during their first wrangle, but thereafter they broke down the fences and out of the corral.

The score would seesaw back and forth much of the first game until Polson emerged from a 21 apiece tie to massage a small buffer until victory.

Lydia “Does It All” Dupuis played a key role in winning that first set.

Trailing by 15-18, Dupuis hit the trifecta, rattling off three aces in a row to tie things up at 18 apiece.

She would later pick up her fourth ace shortly thereafter to make it 20-18 in the favor of the Lady Pirates.

In the second game after a 3-3 tie, the Lady Broncs stampeded to tie matters up at one apiece.

In the third game, back-to-back service aces by setter Jaiden “Just Do It” Toth built an early 4-1 lead, but Frenchtown would tie, then continued to expand their margin of separation until the chasm was too wide to overcome 25-15.

The fourth game was tightly contested much like the first game in the early going, Polson maintaining a narrow lead until the Lady Broncs closed the gap at 8 apiece.

Thereafter, Frenchtown started to chip away, nursing a single point narrow lead into two, two into three until the match ended a half dozen points short for Lady Pirates.

Haley “the Hurricane” Fyant led all spikers with 16 kills, which went far to offset an equally rich performance by Morgan Ray of Frenchtown with her 14 kills.

But the visiting Lady Broncs also had a trio of others with 5 kills or better, whereas the Lady Pirates could only counter with Lauren “Lickety Split” Lefthand with her handful.

Polson (0-1, 1-1) is schedule to compete this weekend on Saturday at the Smelter City Tournament in Anaconda.
