Woman loses cops in high speed chase; gets busted later after ramming cop cars in Ronan
PABLO -- Reba Hawkins, who is on the Department of Corrections Most Wanted list, did not want to return to jail. So she took Lake County Sheriff's deputies and CSKT officers on a high-speed chase from Pablo to Clairmont Road (near Ronan) at speeds up to 100 miles per hour, Sheriff's Department spokesperson Karen Sargeant said.
Hawkins made her dash at about 10 p.m. last night (Sept. 21) when she refused to pull over for a Sheriff's Department instigated traffic stop.
Hawkins, 26 of St. Igtnatius, who had an active probation violation warrant, sped off eluding “deputies and Tribal officers by leading them on a high speed pursuit reaching speeds of up to 80 to 90 mph. This pursuit traveled the back roads, many of them dirt and gravel of the Pablo area,” Sargeant said.
Once in downtown Pablo, Hawkins abandoned her truck, a black Dodge pick-up, and disappeared.
Just before midnight, however, Hawkins was busted.
“The pursuit began again when the same female was observed leaving a Pablo residence in a silver passenger car,” Sargeant said.
Hawkins drove the second leg of her attempted escape at speeds up to 100 miles per hour, traveled down Clairmont Road where Hawkins was eventually “blocked in” by deputies.
“(Hawkins) rammed her vehicle backwards into the deputy’s vehicle twice, and then sped down the road and hit another deputy’s vehicle in a head on collision,” Sargeant said. “The initial deputy then blocked (Hawkins') vehicle and she was apprehended by law enforcement at (about 12:15 a.m.).”
Hawkins was treated and released from St. Joseph Hospital and taken to the Lake County Detention Center for the parole violation warrant and other charges.
“Both deputies were also treated and released with non-life threatening injuries,” Sargeant said.
