ADELL JEWELL MORRISON JANZEN
Adell Jewell Morrison Janzen, resident of St. Mary’s Manor for the past three years, joined her family at the throne of Jesus on Monday, August 17. Adell has lived in many places including: Oak Grove, Mo.; Blue Springs, Mo.; and various places in Montana, California, Germany, and Hawaii.
Adell was born on Dec. 14, 1937 to Alfred and Alma (Dulleck) Morrison in Sidney, Mont.
Her parents were ministers, starting churches in various cities in Montana. Adell and her sisters would sing as the “Morrison Melody Makers” at the many churches in which her father would speak and pastor.
In August of 1946, the family answered the call to start a ministry in Hawaii. The girls all learned to play the ukulele, embracing the Hawaiian culture. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1955, Adell moved to California and married Robert Adams.
She joined Bob in Germany in 1956 where she enjoyed learning the language and culture. She had her son, Robert, in 1957 at the Ramstein Air Base Hospital.
They returned to California in 1958 living in various cities. She had daughters Cheri (1962) and Ida (1964).
She worked for Sylvania in 1965 after attending their one week training in Electronics.
In 1967 they moved to Missouri and she took a job at Dit-Mco as an electronics inspector.
Adell married Herman Janzen in 1971 and gained three more daughters, Leilani, Lucille, and Lori. Once her children were out of school, she went back to school.
She always loved learning and made everything a learning experience.
In January 1981, she attend the PACE classes at Longview Community College then transferred to UMKC where she earned a double Bachelor’s in History and Education.
She taught at Paseo High, Metro Tech, Westport High, and Martin Luther King Middle School. After retiring, she was a substitute teacher in Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Lone Jack, and Lee’s Summit Christian and in Polson.
Adell had a heart for service and lived her life as a Kingdom worker. Adell ministered wherever she was. She taught children’s church, Youth for Christ clubs, Missionettes, Vacation Bible School and other various children’s ministries. She taught 4-H cooking and cake decorating clubs. She taught her children and grandchildren, and loved organizing cousin day visits. In her church, she volunteered often.
She befriended many ladies in her church and neighborhood and often organized outings or just spent time with each of them.
She loved having weekly services at area nursing homes. She would sing, play and have a scripture and story. She continued the tradition of singing, taking her granddaughters to sing at various nursing homes. Thursday night chapel services were one of the highlights of her week.
She was a prayer warrior and lifted many of us to her Lord.
Adell was preceded in death by husband, Herman; parents Alma and Alfred Morrison; and daughter Lucille Smith.
She is survived by her children: Bob (Tina) Adams, Cheri (Jim) Pahmeyer, Ida (Mark) White, Lori (Chris)
Turner and Leilani Janzen; sisters Aleen Pacitti and Alva Hatlin; grandchildren: Matthew Turner, Kristen McWhirt, Tracey McWhirt, Emily Pahmeyer, Sarah Broski, Josef Adams, Ashli Schrock, Aaron King, Jon White, David White, Nathan Smith, Joshua Smith, Hannah Joy Janzen, and Micah Janzen; and ten great grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 21 and a Celebration of Life Service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 22, at First Christian Church, Blue Springs. Reverend Cliff Caton officiated. Burial followed at Lobb Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Missions or St. Mary’s Manor.
