| August 26, 2015 9:41 AM

Donald Everett Bosshardt M.D., age 80, beloved husband, father, Papa, brother and Doctor has gone to be with God.

He died August 13 after a long and hard fought battle with leukemia.

He was a gentle and giving Christian man and a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson, and Peace Lutheran Church in Las Cruces, N.M.

He touched many lives personally and professionally and will be greatly missed.

Donald was born in Ogden, Utah in 1934 and grew up in Ontario, Calif.

As a teenager he spent summers at the family cabin on Flathead Lake and fell in love with Montana.

He met Mary Lou in San Francisco while attending medical school and upon completion of training as a general practitioner they moved to Montana.

He served patients in Glendive, Choteau, Great Falls, Whitefish, and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

He was a compassionate and respected physician, and after retirement, spent winters in Las Cruces, N.M., serving at a clinic for the underserved.

Besides his passion for family and medicine, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, hiking, horseback riding, bird watching, and especially fishing.

He was proud to have introduced fishing to his seven grandchildren and they caught their first fish with him.

Donald is survived by his wife of 56 years Mary Lou; son James (Carrie) Bosshardt, Josh and Jesse; son Thomas (Louise) Bosshardt, Anthony, Matthew, and Elaina; daughter Rachel (Tim) Lafser, Trevor and Tyler; brother Lowell (Linda) Bosshardt; sister Shawna (Doyle) Lyman, and numerous nieces and nephews.  At Don’s request cremation has taken place and a private family goodbye service has been held.

A Celebration and remembrance service for family and friends will be held next summer on Flathead Lake at a date to be announced.
