Judy Kay Chowning

Judy Kay Chowning, age 69, of Ronan, passed away in her home, on Tuesday, Dec. 1, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She departed this life peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. 

Judy was born on Sunday, April 28, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to parents George and Betty Long. She spent her formative years in Caney, Kan., and graduated from Caney High School in 1964, followed by graduation from Pittsburg State University in 1969.  

Judy married the love of her life, Charles “Jack” Chowning, on May 29, 1966, and gave birth to their son Clinton in 1970 and their daughter Jennifer in 1973. 

Judy spent much of her life training and showing horses to the National Championship level.  She dearly loved her family and friends and treasured their companionship riding horses, fishing, camping, entertaining, barbecuing, and at horse shows. She also had a soft, loving heart for the many animals and pets with which she shared her life.

Judy is survived by Jack, her devoted husband of 49 years; son Clint (Melissa), granddaughter Chelsea, grandson Cadis, all of Polson; son-in-law Ken Kingston and granddaughter Jacquelyn of Arlington, Wash.; brother-in-law Oscar (Thelma) Chowning of Albany, Ore.; sister-in-law Joyce (Joe) Miller of Coffeyville, Kan., and many nephews and nieces. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, and by her daughter Jennifer on May 25, 2015.

In accordance with Judy’s wishes there will be a celebration of life next summer.
