Phillip L. Maxwell

Phillip L. Maxwell passed away at his home in Yuma, Ariz., on Saturday, Nov. 28, at the age of 91.

He was born June 9, 1924, in Kansas to Ralph and Bertha Maxwell of Ronan.  He was in good health until his final illness.  

Phil is survived by Jean, his wife of 67 years, and his three daughters; Wanda Wise, of Yuma, Ariz. and twin daughters, Judy Maxwell of Missoula, and Joan Harbin and her husband Roger of Redmond, Wash.  He has four grandchildren: Wyatt, Jordanne, Elliot and Scott.  He has six great grandchildren.

Phil lived in many states until his family settled in the Round Butte area of Ronan.  He continued with the family cattle ranching and farming business.  In 1964 he held a dispersion sale of the registered Herefords but continued with feeder cattle and farming.  He acquired his real-estate license through a Montana State University program and worked out of the Harbin Insurance office in Ronan. Later he owned his own business, Maxwell Real Estate. 

Phil made many trips into the Bob Marshall Wilderness with his family and many friends.  He loved fishing, skiing and snowmobiling.  He and Jean spent many years traveling the Baha of Mexico.  He was a Past Master of the Order of Masons, and a member of the Elks Club and Lions Club.  He loved going to church in Ronan and Yuma, and spending time with his family.

Phil enlisted in the army in 1942.  He served in Italy in support of the 10th Mountain Division.  He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5652, in Ronan. He loved his country, and saluted its flag every morning.
