Lady Pirates pick up second win of season

At Polson on Thursday evening, the visiting Lady Lions jumped out to an 8-0 lead on the host Lady Pirates before Polson was able to net a basket off a Marlee Congdon long distance call from behind the arc. In the second quarter, the Lady Pirates were finally able to gain some traction as they closed the gap on the Lady Lions to within a trey at intermission.

Polson would take its first lead off a Dylan Quinn deuce 21-20. Back-to-back triples by Congdon would extend that lead to its largest margin 27-20 before Eureka would counter with its own trey from downtown just before the end of the third period.

The Lady Lions closed the gap to within a deuce 27-25 on a pair of Evynn Anderson free-throws, but a MaKenna Weltz triple expanded the lead once more. Thereafter, the closest Eureka would get would be 30-27 at the three minute and change juncture, but a pair of Polson layups by Nicole Lake and Dylan Quinn would sandwich a Eureka free throw to hold off the Lady Lion charge 34-28.

Amanda Peterson of Eureka would lead all scorers with a double-double of a dozen points along with a baker’s dozen rebounds. Polson’s Nicole Lake also turned in a double-double with ten points along with eleven rebounds, while Erin Sampson was beastly on the boards with a dozen rebounds. The return of Lauren Lefthand from concussion precautions was a shot in the arm for the Lady Pirate offense with her half dozen steals as well as assists despite coming up empty from the floor.
