Community Invited to Presentation on US-Brazil Connect by Visiting Students

| January 28, 2015 4:29 PM

At the closing of their week-long visit to Northwest Montana, nine of Brazil’s top math and science students, along with their Flathead Valley Community College coaches, will deliver a presentation on their life-changing experiences through the US-Brazil Connect program. The presentation will be a testimony and homage to cross-cultural friendships and global education opportunities afforded by the US-Brazil Connect program in conjunction with FVCC.

The visiting Brazilian students are Stéfany Isabelle de Araújo, Hernane José de Carvalho Junior, Guilherme Augusto Silva Rodrigues, Luiza Rocha Ferreira, Wyllamisson de Oliveira Mendes, Giovana Andrade Azzi, Davi Lucas Santos Vale, Izadora Tavares de Souza and Kayssa Ferreira Pena. These students are among 109 Conexão Mundo students who will travel to the United States over January and February. They represent the top 5 percent of 2,000 students who participated in US-Brazil Connect’s Conexão Mundo program in 2014.

During the presentation, the Brazilian students will be joined by FVCC 2014 student fellows Zoe Glasser Breeding, Monica Peterson, Andrea Kavert, Siri Wheeler and Gwendolyn Fratt.  These students were among 11 FVCC students who traveled to Contagem, Brazil, to coach English as a part of US-Brazil Connect’s Conexão Mundo program, a paid fellowship that aims to strengthen education and build economic opportunities by connecting communities, engaging leaders and creating transformative learning experiences linking the United States and Brazil. The international collaborative program provides U.S. community colleges students with affordable opportunities for global leadership while increasing U.S. community colleges’ international exposure.

Free and open to the public, the event will take place January 30 from Noon to 1 p.m. in the Large Community Room inside the Arts and Technology Building on the FVCC campus.
