Representatives of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks were first to ask the public to help them find a boat, stolen from Lakeside June 18.

The boat was stolen and taken to Lakeside where it was “chopped” to be sold in individual parts, Flathead County sheriff Chuck Curry said. Law enforcement branches from around Montana were on the look out for the red and white 2015 Tige boat, seen being towed south on Highway 93 toward Polson behind a dark black/blue, mid 1990s GMC or Chevrolet truck.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said that the boat was taken in the early morning hours before sunup from a rental business in Lakeside who leased the brand new boat.

The boat was sitting on a trailer in a parking lot when it was stolen and it had never saw water.

“It was worth more than $100,000,” Curry said.

Curry said the suspect was in possession of several pieces of the boat that included the stereo, speakers and windshield. The stolen items were found on dry land, Curry said. The arrest was made at the end of June, Curry said.

The suspect’s name was not released pending charges.

The Flathead County Sheriffs Office continues to investigate the stolen boat, and several parts of the boat were not yet located, he said.

The suspect will remain in custody on unrelated charges.
