Body of Virginia Man Discovered; Death Suspected to be Self-Inflicted
WEST GLACIER, MT. – The body of a 40 year-old man from Virginia Beach, Virginia was discovered Tuesday in a vehicle parked along the Going-to-the-Sun Road about one mile from the foot of Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park.
At approximately 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, park dispatch received a call from three visitors that were driving along the Going-to-the-Sun Road about a non-responsive male slumped over in a vehicle at one of the vehicle pull outs along the road.
Park rangers immediately responded and found a deceased male slumped over the steering wheel. Park rangers, with concurrence with medical control, declared the man dead at the scene. An initial investigation indicates the man had a self-inflicted gun-shot wound.
The Flathead County Coroner arrived at the scene, and the body was transported to a local funeral home. The vehicle was impounded. The man’s next of kin was notified.
An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service in coordination with the Flathead County Sheriff's Office. No further information is available at this time.
