Charlo boys win district track title

The Charlo boys' track team continued their domination Thursday at the district 14-C track meet in Polson.

The four time state champions started their attempt to make it a fifth by winning eight events. Dugan Runkel won both the shot put and the discus for the Vikings. Michael Delaney added wins in the 200 and the 300-meter hurdles. Dalton Delaney won one of the most exciting races of the day, in which he started a full out sprint against his competitor with over 100 meters to go in 3,200-meter race. Also winning events for Charlo were Jesse Long, who won the short hurdles, Kyle Couture, who won the pole vault, and Bridger Smith, who took the javelin competition. The long relay team, which included Chandler Krahn, Michael Delaney, Trent Dennison, and Dalton Delaney, also took top honors.

The Arlee boys took third as a team and were led by Isaac Desjarlais, who won the 100 and 400-meter races. He also participated along with Leondre Bolin, PJ Haynes, and Harold Yocum to win the short relay.

Placing for Two Eagle were Comfort Bolen Jr., who took fifth in the 100-meter dash and sixth in the long jump, and Kamiah Payne, who took second in the long jump.

The top six finishers from each event move on to the divisional meet, which takes place Friday and Saturday in Missoula at Dornblaser. To continue to the state meet, athletes will need to place in the top five. This year's state track meet is in Laurel.

The Arlee girls' team took the title away from the Charlo girls this year, with a commanding 222-140 score. Arlee won eleven events and was led by Carly Hergett, who won three events, including the 400-meter run, the 100-meter hurdles, and the triple jump. She was also part of the long relay that won, and placed second in the long jump. Ashley Revis also had an impressive day, winning the 100 and 200-meter races and participating in both winning relay teams. She also took third in the discus. Becca Whitesell had two individual wins as well, one in the 800-meter run and the other in the 1600-meter run. She also participated in both relays. Alex Adams was the third Scarlet to win two individual events, taking the pole vault and the long jump, while also competing on the winning short relay team.

The Charlo girls had three individual winners. Brooklyn Foust won the 3,200-meter run, edging out her teammate Shayna Nagy by a tenth of a second. Cheyenne Nagy took first place in the 300-meter hurdles and finished second in the 10-meter hurdles. Lindsey Tryon took first in the discus and second in the shot put. Both Charlo relay teams took second place as well.

Also moving on to the divisional meet is Danielle Adler of Two Eagle, who took fourth in the shot put.
