Ronan track teams win at districts

Both Ronan teams came out on top at the district 6-B track meet in Missoula.
While some are athletes are already qualified for the state meet, many others are still competing for a spot.
On the girls’ side, Ronan has four athletes qualified for state. Aspen Jore has qualified in the shot put and javelin, Lee Camel in the long jump and triple jump, Sydnee Clairmont in the long jump and high jump, and Ally Buhr in the high jump. Ronan’s short relay has also qualified. Alex Dennis, Sydnee Clairmont, Micalann McCrea, and Jenna Shepherd made up that qualifying team.
For those still fighting for a spot, the district meet was the place to start. On Friday, Ally Buhr won the pole vault for the Maidens and had the only first place finish of the day for Ronan. Alex Dennis took third in the 200-meter run, Sydnee Clairmont took third in the 400-meter run, Ashley Peterson took fifth in the 800-meter run, andSammy Metzer took fourth in the two mile.
On Saturday, Ronan had winners in three events, including two by Aspen Jore. Sydnee Clairmont added the third by winning the high jump. Lee Camel took second in the long jump, as did the long relay team and Penni Weyant in the one mile race.
While Mission doesn’t have any girls qualified for state yet, many are making their way to divisionals after placing this past weekend. Among those are Trinity Lewandowski, who took third in the short hurdles, and fifth in the long hurdles and triple jump. Auxie Cates took first in the discus, second in the pole vault, and sixth in the triple jump. Sydney Castor placed fifth in the 100-meter dash. Mariah Durglo took fifth in the javelin and fourth in the shot put while Emanuelle LaChance placed sixth in the javelin. Shaniya Decker finished sixth in the one-mile race.
The Ronan boys started their winning ways on Friday, when they picked up first place finishes by Jackson Duffey in the one-mile and by Bryce Cullen in the 110-meter hurdles. Cole Geahardt, Tyler Houle, and Steven Flesch all picked up second place finishes for the Chiefs. On Saturday, Jackson Duffey continued winning, taking the 3200-meter run and the 800-meter run. Bryce Cullen got another win in the 300-meter hurdles and Cole Gerhardt took first in the shot put. The Ronan long relay team also took first place.
The only Chief already qualified for the state meet is Tyler Houle in the pole vault.
The Mission boys team picked up 34 points all together. Tate Wingart placed second in the mile and fourth in the triple jump on Friday. Nick Durglo placed third in the discus on Friday then took fifth in both the 100 and 200-meter races on Saturday.
He also placed sixth in the javelin. Raymond Matt took fifth in the triple jump, fourth in the javelin, and sixth in the long jump. Both teams will travel back to Missoula this week to compete in the divisional track meet at Dornblaser field. They will be joined by the Class C western divisional athletes.
