Missing hiker dies on trail
A 73-year-old Polson-Ronan area man was found dead after his wife called emergency dispatchers at about 10 p.m. to say her husband went hiking and never returned, Don Bell, Lake County Sheriff said.
The man, who was an avid hiker set off on a snowshoeing trip earlier in the day in the Hell Roaring area.
Bell said that the Sheriff’s Department paged and dispatched Search and Rescue crews, who, along with Two Bear Air found the hiker at just after midnight.
No foul play is suspected and no evidence that the man suffered trauma, animal attack or self-inflicted injury, he said.
