The entire Polson varsity golf team traveled to Sidney this past weekend to compete in the State A golf tournament. Heading into the tournament, sophomore Carson McDaniel had been golfing very well. He continued that into the first rainy day of the tournament, when he shot a 79 and was in the top ten. On the second day, McDaniel struggled, shooting an 88. That took him out of the top ten, and he finished in 15th place. As a freshman last year, McDaniel tied for 8th, but fortunately for him, he has two more years to make it to the top.

As a team, the Polson boys finished seventh. Finishing three shots back from McDaniel was senior Curtis Capdeville. He shot an 84 and an 86 for a 170. Noah McDonald finished his season off strong, shooting a 177, and freshman Matt Hobbs proved he is one to watch in the coming years. He shot a 187. Colin Kenney rounded out the boys’ team with a 191.

The top finisher for the girls’ team was Kiyara McCue, who shot a 115 and a 118 for a total of 233. Emily Davis was next with a 263 and took an impressive five strokes off her first day total. Amanda Farley also golfed better the second day, shooting a 136 and 133 for a total of 269.

Coach Bill Owen said he was pleased with how the team did. As the only senior, Curtis Capdeville played in his last high school tournament, and Coach Owen said he had two great days. “I think he played as well as he has all year,” Owen said. All three girls will be returning, along with three of four boys who went to state. Owen said he and the athletes are looking forward to next year.
