Community meal popular place to gather

It may not  be a new thing in St. Ignatius, but the school-district-hosted community breakfast is certainly a popular thing.

More than 300 men, women and children attended the St. Ignatius School District free Community Breakfast Oct. 5, a monthly celebration designed to draw to embrace the community school relationship.

“We are trying to get community into the school,” Superintendent Jason Sargent said. “We want to make connections.”

Just under 250 people attended the last community breakfast, he said.

Meant for anyone in the community, most of the community’s current attendees are parents and their children, Sargent said.

“Parents of kids are the ones that normally come in, but everybody is welcome. We do not turn anybody away. It’s a community event where we do announcements,” he said. “Each one of us (school leaders) will talk about what’s going on in each of the schools and directors will talk about extra-curricular things like the Parent Teacher Association.

The next community breakfast is scheduled for Nov. 2 and is entitled Donuts for Dads.

Sargent said the event is open for everyone but the district wants to encourage dads to participate in the event with their students.

The December community breakfast will be entitled Muffins with Moms. 

The district will skip January and get back to the community breakfast outreach in Feburary with a family-focused event.

Community breakfasts a lot of fun, Sargent said. Kids get to be with their parents or mentors, listen to music playing in the background and watch a Power Point presentation showcasing St. Ignatius School District students. 

“We want to share the positive things that are going on in our schools,” he said. “We want to take the opportunity to tell about the positive things that are happening.”
