At Polson on Saturday, the Mission Valley Christian Academy (MVCA) hosted a four team 7-on-7 girls soccer tournament that entailed six games scaled to 30 minute halves.  MVCA played in a quartet of those, the equivalent of a 240 minute marathon of soccer for local player Aisha Clarke and only a few minutes shy of that mark for Rachel Maddy, Ellie Maddy, Kailana Redwood and Nayeli Windauer.

After winning their first pair of games, MVCA rallied from a one score deficit with a waning seconds goal by Ellie Maddy that knotted the game at five apiece and precipitated a shootout with the winner advancing to the championship.  MVCA would squeeze by their opponent 4-3 with Aisha Clarke providing one part of the last minute heroics with her sixth round goal and Rachel Maddy supplying the other half with a subsequent block of the Plains-Thompson Falls kick.

MVCA would face Stillwater Christian for the championship, who would prevail 5-0 over a visibly spent squad of soccer marathon marvels.

Rachel Maddy scored her first ever goal from the keeper position off a long punt that landed in front of the Crysalis keeper and bounded high over the her head into the net.

Trailing in the waning minutes of the contest 5-4, MVCA’s Ellie Maddy’s netted her fourth goal of the match with less than a minute remaining to tie the score and extend the game into an extra period to be resolved by a shootout.  Her final boot took a hard angle from the right side over the keepers head and into the far side netting.  The level of difficulty coupled with the nail-biting timing of her feat of the foot rated this tally as one of the highlight reel goals of the tournament.

During the shootout, each team made their first, second and fourth shots with their third plus fifth shots either blocked or missed.  During the sixth round, Aisha Clarke nailed her ball into the back of the net, while MVCA keeper Rachel Maddy blocked the PTF final attempt to advance the host team into the championship.
