Hunter found after getting lost

A 19-year-old Polson hunter became lost in the Battle Ridge area of Gallatin County on Saturday, but was found within hours thanks to the GPS device on his phone.

Unfamiliar with the surrounding typography, the man called emergency dispatchers and asked for help at about 7:30 p.m. 

He was unprepared for cold overnight temperatures and was losing daylight.

Gallatin County Search and Rescue teams responded to the scene and used his phone’s GPS data to locate him.

The hunter was discovered unharmed shortly before midnight.
