DR. TERRY LANES
Dr. Terry L. Lanes passed away peacefully after a short illness on August 27 in Missoula at the age of 73. He was born on Feb. 17, 1942 in Anaconda to Oscar and Lois Lanes (Hogenson). He was one of five boys, and two girls. Terry attended Anaconda schools and graduated from Anaconda High in 1960. He went on to attend the University of Montana and graduated from the University of Washington in 1970 with a doctorate degree in medicine. He served his medical internship at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane and upon completion, moved to Polson where he had a thriving practice from 1973-1989. He then decided to continue his education as a psychiatrist and served as senior resident at Dartmouth for three years and returned to Missoula in 1992, working in Psychiatry for Western Montana Neuro Behavioral Specialists. In 2003 Terry went to work at Ft. Harrison in Helena, then in 2005 he became the Medical Director for Western Montana Medical Health Center in Butte. From 2012-2015 he became the Staff Psychiatrist at Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs and most recently was the Staff Psychiatrist at Montana State Prison. He touched countless lives everywhere he went.
Terry married Eileen McCurdy in 1965 and together they had two children, Eric and Heidi. After 35 years, they divorced. Terry married his high school sweetheart, Susan Blume on August 25, 2000 and was blessed to acquire nine additional children.
Terry enjoyed fly fishing, restoring classic automobiles, and wood carving. He was gifted with artistic ability and was able to fully construct two Woody wagons, multiple old classics, and two boats. His brothers had an integral part in each of his various projects. He carved wooden fish and had recently taken up his old passion, water color painting. Terry was known by everyone as a man of God and served for many years at New Life in Polson, and also as a deacon at Hope Lutheran Church in Anaconda. He was able to serve, together with his daughter Heidi, on five medical missions to Haiti following the devastating earthquake in 2010.
