MVCA down a team
Mission Valley Christian Academy (MVCA) will field two teams this season instead of three on account of insufficient numbers to accommodate a full-fledged boys roster. Last season the MVCA Sting boys’ soccer secured the second seed in the MCAA Western Conference after having posted their best regular schedule record (5-0-2) prior to the state tournament.
But the two returning MVCA teams will pack plenty of clout. Last season the MVCA coed team posted a 6-2 record. MVCA coed will feature three senior boys in MCAA Western All-Conference pick Nick Windauer (bsc+coed* 11g10a, >61sog), MCAA Western All-Conference player Jake Windauer (bsc+coed* 19g4a, >44sog), Brady Shipley, and sophomore midfielder/defender Lucca Maddy (bsc+coed* 1g3a, >18sog). Other coed contributors are anticipated to include a pair of siblings of the Lady Pirate Clarke tandem, middle schooler’s Aisha and Breken.
MVCA Lady Sting girls’ soccer has one returning senior in goalkeeper/midfielder Rachel Maddy (gsc* 4g1a). Junior forward/striker Lexi Maddy returns after missing last season due to a leg injury. Middle schooler’s Ellie Maddy (gsc* 2g1a) and Nayeli Windauer (gsc* 1g) along with others will also bolster the roster.
Both teams will be co-coached by Jess Kittle and Heather Howell. The first scheduled MVCA game has been canceled on account of poor air quality. The MVCA Lady Sting are slated to host the visiting Stillwater Christian Lady Cougars on Tuesday, September 8. MVCA hosts a coed tournament the weekend of September 18-19.
