Athlete of the Week
Polson’s Tiara Duford had six goals in two games last week to make her an easy choice for athlete of the week.
The junior striker scored twice on assists by Ashlee Howell against Bigfork last Tuesday in Polson’s 3-1 win. She scored another, unassisted, for her first of two hat tricks last week.
On Saturday night in Whitefish, Duford scored once off an assist from Ashlee Howell, and again from Kiana Snyder, then scored another on a header from a corner kick by Marina Mayorga for her second hat trick.
Duford is an All-Conference soccer player who coach Michael Hewston called an all-star player and an all-star student. She has eight goals and two assists so far this year and is now ranked among the top ten scorers in the state for Class A.
She also competes in track. This spring as a sophomore, she was the anchor of the short relay team that placed fourth at state, and was also the anchor for the long relay that qualified for state. Individually, Duford also made it to state in the 100, 200 and 400-meter races.
