Three accidents over five days cause nine injuries, one death
This past week, three major accidents kept law enforcement busy. One accident, Sunday night, resulted in a fatality.
RONAN/TUESDAY, APRIL 5
An accident between a Buick sedan and a Ronan City pickup truck occurred Tuesday afternoon on the corner of 4th Ave and Buchanan Street in Ronan around 1:42 p.m.
According to Police Chief Ken Weaver, the Buick was traveling west, going faster than the posted speed limit on Buchanan. The driver ran the stop sign and collided with a Ronan City maintenance truck that was headed south.
“It looks like he (the Buick) rolled, over end a couple of times, took out the fence and came to rest next to the parked vehicle,” said Weaver.
The Jaws of Life was deployed on the scene to remove the top of the Buick so the rescue teams could access the driver and passenger inside.
The three people involved in the crash were taken to the hospital. Their current conditions were unknown at press time.
It wasn’t evident at the time of the crash if drugs or alcohol were involved, but the investigation is on going.
No other people outside the three involved in the collision were injured.
HIGHWAY 93/FRIDAY, APRIL 1
Two cars collided near Walstead State Park Friday around 12:06 p.m.
A ford pick-up truck rear-ended a white Pontiac van on Highway 93 near Big Arm. Both vehicles were southbound.
After the collision, both vehicles ended up in the ditch with extensive damage. The Jaws of Life was brought to the scene to free three people from the white van, all of whom needed immediate transport to a hospital. The two people inside the Ford were able to leave the pick-up by themselves but required transportation to a hospital as well.
Two arrived at the scene and transported all five people to a hospital.
The current condition of the five people was unknown at press time.
BACK ROAD/SUNDAY, APRIL 3
An accident involving two people in one car occurred Sunday evening on Back road near mile marker six.
Carl R. Livingston Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene and the second person in the car was picked up by a helicopter and flown to a medical facility.
The name of the second person is unknown.
The only details obtained at the time included the name of the deceased, the location, and that the car hit the bank while traveling south.
