On Tuesday evening, members of the Polson Police Department traded in their uniforms for paper and pen at the Polson Pizza Hut.

George Simpson, Corporal for the Polson Police Department, said they got together with Special Olympics to come up with an idea for a fundraiser. “Cops eat lunch here all the time,” he said, “So we talked to Joe (the manager) to see what we could come up with.”

Between 5 and 9 p.m. ten percent of all orders were donated to the Polson Police Department, who turned around and donated it to the Special Olympics. Local Special Olympics members were on hand to help with the fundraiser. Their summer games take place in May in Missoula.

According to Simpson, the Special Olympics donate 60 cents of every dollar back into the Polson Special Olympics fund and the other 40 percent stays in the Montana Special Olympics fund. “That’s a pretty big chunk as far as fundraising goes,” he said.

This was the first time the event had taken place in Polson.
