Louis N. Elmore, 84, of Flathead Lake, passed away on Friday, July 29, at St. Joseph Hospital in Polson. HE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!

He was born in Del Rio, Texas on March 18, 1932, to Neal and Myrtle Elmore. Lou attended the University of Montana and earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration Degree. Later that summer of 1954, he married Donna Louise Mithun in Missoula.

As a career Army officer, Lou was stationed all over the United States and also had three tours abroad. While he was stationed in New Orleans he earned a Master’s of Business Administration Degree in 1966. He retired from the army in 1975 to Missoula. Lou went back to school at the University of Montana and received a Master’s of Interpersonal Communication Science Degree in 1979. He and Donna ultimately made their home at Flathead Lake in 1981.

He was an avid woodworker and spent many hours building things for his family. Lou was the proud owner of many dogs, especially greyhounds, and was active in Greyhound Rescue for Montana. He was a proud veteran and supported and donated to many related organizations.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Elmore Stebbins and her husband, Larry; a son, William Neal Elmore and four grandchildren, Trudy and Stephen Stebbins and Amber Bushnell and Nicole Kempf and a niece, Jan McCurdy Skibinski and a nephew, Mike McCurdy.

A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab Group at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Polson by calling 406-883-8413.
