Man drowns

A Texas man drowned in Flathead Lake near Bigfork on Thursday.

Musa Rashid, 53, of Sugarland, Texas tipped his kayak over approximately 100 yards from shore, according to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office.

Rashid had taken off the life jacket that he was wearing earlier during the paddle, according to authorities. He attempted to swim to shore, but did not make it. Rashid’s body was recovered in approximately 12 feet of water by people nearby who responded to calls for help. Rashid was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center by Bigfork Ambulance, but he was not revived.

He had been visiting relatives.
