CLASS FOR CAREGIVERS
Powerful Tools for Caregivers classes are scheduled for six Thursdays, Aug. 11- Sept. 15 in Polson. Time for the class is 10 a.m.-11:30. SUPPORT GROUP
An adult sexual assault support group will begin on July 13, Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Agnes Vanderburg Building Room 101 at Salish Kootenai College. Childcare and snacks will be provided. Sexual violence can look many different ways – rape, incest, attempted rape, fondling, or any unwanted sexual contact. These acts are never the sex assault survivor’s fault.

COFFEE WITH THE CHIEF
Ronan Police Chief Ken Weaver will have “Coffee with the Chief” and discuss the proposed Ronan Police mill levy at 9 a.m. at Dobson Creek Coffee on Friday, Aug. 26.
DEMOCRATS MEET
Lake County Democrats are hosting their Annual “Calling All Lake County Democrats Picnic” at Boettcher Park, Friday, Aug. 26 at 5:30 pm. Our featured guest and speaker will be Democratic candidate Jesse Laslovich, who is running for state auditor against Republican Matt Rosendale.
Roast ham and turkey will be provided. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish, or desert, and their own alcoholic beverage if desired. Lemonade will be provided.
The “Wildflowers” will be on hand to entertain with folk, blues, and other types of music from the 60’s through the 80’s . Bring a chair and enjoy seeing old friends and making new ones.
WOLF CLASS
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will host a wolf trapper certification class in Missoula on Saturday, Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the FWP Region 2 office at 3201 Spurgin Road.
Certification is mandatory for anyone planning to trap wolves in Montana, and trappers who successfully completed a wolf trapping course in Montana or Idaho do not need to retake the course.
Classes are free, and interested students can check the schedule and register online at fwp.mt.gov. Follow the links to “hunter education.” Classes will also be held in Bozeman on Aug. 13 and in Kalispell on Dec.10.
In addition to specifics on equipment and techniques, participants will learn about the history, ethics, management and regulations related to wolves and wolf trapping.
BARN DANCE
The Big Arm Association will be holding their annual Community Barn Dance on Saturday, Aug. 27 from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at the Big Arm Historic School. Music will be provided by “Ken’s Country Combo.” Our food menu will include hamburgers, beans, chips, coleslaw, ice cream & cookies and beverage. In lieu of a charge for the meal donations will gladly be accepted. There will be a raffle for our “Made in Montana” themed baskets. Put on your dancing boots and come on down and join the fun. The St. Ignatius Chamber of Commerce is taking orders for the 2017 Birthday Calendar. There will be a table at Rod’s IGA on the following dates from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.: Friday, Aug. 19, Saturday Sept. 3, Friday Sept. 9 and Fri. Sept. 23. Sept. 23 is the absolute last day for orders so please plan accordingly. Prices remain at $10 each with extra names and dates outside the household available for 50 cents each. TOYS FOR TOTS GOLF SCRAMBLE
The Marine Corps. Reserve will host its first annual Toys for Tots four-person golf scramble Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Polson Bay Golf Course Bayshore Nine.
The one-day event will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on the Old Nine. The entry fee will be $40 per person and $50 for non-course season pass holders. The entry fee will include golf and meals on the lawn at the conclusion of play and will be limited to 64 entries. For more information on this event: contact the Polson Bay Golf Course at 883-8230.
ACT FOR AMERICA
Lake County Chapter of ACT for America will meet on Monday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Polson Red Lion. The program will feature Killing Ed, a new documentary film that exposes the truth of one of the largest networks of taxpayer-funded charter schools in the U.S. The schools are operated by members of the “Gulen Movement,” a rapidly expanding global Islamic group whose leader, Fethullah Gulen, now lives in a strongly guarded 23-acre compound in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.Gulen is now making the headlines as the suspected organizer of the recent attempted coup in Turkey.

ART AUCTION
SAFE Harbor’s Annual Art Auction and Celebration is just around the corner on Oct. 22 at the Ronan Community Center. The event is a time for community partners from across the region to share their creations, talents and services to help raise awareness and financial support. At the gala, both a live and silent auction take place with original artwork, jewelry, quilts, pottery, carving, sculptures and photography. Special baskets are also auctioned that include lodging, movie passes, theater tickets, concert tickets, travel, dishware, dinner coupons, service vouchers and a variety of other house wares.
For over 20 years, SAFE Harbor has served Northwest Montana, providing shelter, safety, nurturing, and healing to the survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and others in need. It operates the only domestic violence shelter between Missoula and Kalispell, serving all of Lake County and the Flathead Reservation. The organization offers advocacy, counseling, financial support, group therapy, legal assistance, education, outreach, transportation, crisis intervention, a 24-hour a day hotline, household assistance, training, transitional housing and resource referrals. In the last year, the group provided assistance to over 600 primary clients, with more than 1,500 shelter nights, 7,000 crisis line calls, over 150 with legal services and transportation more than 600 times.

McDONALD DAYS
The Fort Connah Restoration Society will celebrate Angus McDonald Days, his 200th birthday, during our Fall Open House Rendezvous Sat. Sept. 10-Wed. Sept. 14. This is a great opportunity to see the 1846 historic Hudson’s Bay Fort Connah Trading Post come to life. This five-day event will be free to the public and includes demonstrations of time-era activities, crafts and kids games.

FESTIVAL OF PEACE
The 12th annual Festival of Peace begins on Sept. 17 with the sixth annual Walk-A-Mile for Peace. The event begins at 10 a.m. and last until 7 p.m. at the Ewam Garden of 1,000 Buddhas in Arlee. Register for the walk and walk either in person or from anywhere in the world virtually. The festival theme this year Landscapes of Peace: Creating a Compassionate Community. It will feature guest speakers from the Garden and community. There will be food and craft vendors as well as kite flying and face painting. This is a full-day free family event.
