Lady Bison split with Montana Western in series

DILLON — The Salish Kootenai College women’s basketball team split with Montana Western in this Saturday and Sunday’s double-header at Montana Western.

The Lady Bison were able to generate 11 3-point baskets in their win over the Montana Western JV team.

“It’s a good victory,” Lady Bisons’ Coach Juan Perez said. “Our win over Montana Western was one of our first wins over a mainstream college that we have played in quite a few years. They used to beat us pretty good, and for us to go in there and do that to them on their home court is always rewarding.”

The SKC lost its second game of the double-header 64-42. Montana Western included some their varsity players in the second game of the series.

“Those varsity players brought a different momentum with them when they stepped on the court and they played a lot faster,” Perez said. “We had them under control. The rest of their team had to follow suit and that really helped them.”

According to Perez, this Friday’s contest against Montana Western will be the “tie-breaker.”

“I think we might see those same girls that they had on Sunday,” Perez said. “I was looking at the schedule and they don’t have any varsity games on Friday or Saturday, so I am thinking they are going to come with them.”

Perez said he felt his Lady Bisons’ team will be ready if in fact they will have to play the varsity again.

“Oh yeah, since we got home from those games we’ve been working on making adjustments,” Perez said.
