Area softball players hold own fireworks show at tournaments
While most area softball teams were idle over the Independence Day holiday, a segment of players were participating in tournaments much like some of their baseball counterparts.
At the USA Stars and Stripes Tournament in Las Vegas, the Missoula-based 18U Montana Avalanche-White team went 3-3 to place thirteenth among 44 teams in their division. Among the roster of Avs-White are Jordyn Eichert of Mission, Hannah Potter of Polson and two second generation descendants of Mission Valley heritage in Sierrah Hardy (Charlo alumni parents) and Taylor Holmes (Ronan alumni parent). Some of their contributions during the course of their half dozen games are cited below the score of that contest.
Closer to home at the Bridger Mountain Classic in Belgrade, two teams with Mission Valley players among their rosters captured hardware over the Fourth of July weekend. In the 10U division, the local Ronan Mighty Maidens captured third place after being edged in the semifinal by a team they had beaten earlier in pool play.
In the 16/18U high school division, the Montana Avalanche-Earl team features Ashley Benson of Polson among their roster. Benson smacked a two RBI double in the latter portion of their semifinal that proved instrumental in vaulting them into the championship that they later won.
