Area Agency on Aging

At this time of year in The Area VI Agency on Aging, we usually have several clients walk in with the same look in their eyes. Family members come to visit in the prime of our beautiful summer season, and find that their parent/relative/friend who lives here is struggling with the limitations of advancing age. We can help identify resources available in the area, and also financial assistance they may not be aware of.

We are an aging and disability resource center, and have trained information and assistance staff in our Polson office, and also people available in Lincoln, Mineral and Sanders Counties. Although it’s best to call for an appointment, we are here on the second floor of the Salish building Monday –Friday, 8 a.m.until 5 p.m. We are closed for lunch from noon until 1 p.m.

If you know what you are looking for we can provide a list of the services available with phone numbers. If you want more in depth help, our options counseling service is available. A counselor can meet with family members, including the person needing assistance, to help you figure out what would best meet the needs and desires of the loved one concerned. There is no fee for most of our services. The fee for options counseling is $50, however a generous sliding scale is available to reduce the cost.

We also can help with Medicare issues. Our SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) counselors help sort out the often confusing details of Medicare, and can explain confusing bills. The Senior Medicare Patrol can investigate questionable claims or activities.
