Breastfeeding events hel
From the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes
On August 1, 2016, Tribal Health of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes will celebrate the national Breastfeeding Awareness Week with educational and community programs across the reservation.
“Breastfeeding is an important way for us to provide essential nutrition, bonding and wellbeing for our children,” said Lindsey O’Neill, Tribal Health WIC Manager and Certified Lactation Counselor. “We hope to bring education and awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding to the community through fun activities for families during this week.”
Events include a community fair; in-service education for professionals; educational discussions; luncheons; sewing; with the week culminating in a screening of the award winning breastfeeding documentary “Milk.” The documentary shows through an inti- mate and artistic lens a universal perspective on the politics, commercialization and controversies surrounding birth and infant feeding over the canvas of stunningly beauti- ful visuals and poignant voices from around the globe. Inspiring informative, provoca- tive and sensitive, “Milk” celebrates bringing a new life into this world with a strong call to action and reflection.
