Phyllis Flip Irene Kresge Amick
Phyllis “Flip” Irene Kresge Amick, age 88, passed away Wednesday, March 2, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center. Flip was born April 8, 1927 in Akron, Ohio to Martin (ML) Luther and Nellie (Nell) Kresge.
Flip graduated from New Trier Township High School June 1945 and attended the University of Colorado where she was pursuing a major in nursing and belonged to the Theta Epsilon Sorority. She married Louis (Lou) Edwin Amick on June 15, 1948.
She became a devoted wife and mother, moving from one oil town to another in Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado before retiring in Polson.
Once the girls were older, Flip worked as a teacher’s aide, enjoying the challenges of working with special needs children.
Flip loved reading, watching Westerns and listening to Glenn Miller music.
Her hobbies included travel with Lou in their 63 years of marriage, camping, boating and fishing. She loved gardening, cooking and knitting. Flip was a Girl Scout leader and Neighborhood Chairman for all three daughters, accumulating 17 years of Girl Scout volunteer service.
Flip’s advice to her daughters and grandchildren was to be your own person and don’t let peer pressure get to you. The values she treasured were: honesty, sincerity, and integrity.
Flip is survived by three daughters, Paula, Carol and Teresa (Terry); 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday, March 7 at The Lake Funeral Home. A graveside service followed at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the North Lake County Public Library in Flip’s name.
