The Polson FC U-19 Girls Soccer team attended the Canyon Rim Classic Soccer Tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho this past weekend. It was a regional soccer tournament with over 130 teams in attendance, primarily from Idaho and Utah. The Polson girls went undefeated and brought home a first place trophy, finishing the tournament 3-0-1. Polson had an impressive 10 goals for and only 2 goals against. Superb defensive play by Hannah Hobbs, Brenna Clarke, and Marina Mayorga and split goalkeeping by Jenna Evertz and Rachel Maddy allowed the Polson attack to push heavily. Ten goals came from 7 different assisters, including Ashlee Howell (3), Sarah Howell (2), Brenna Clarke (1), Annie Liddle-Broberg (1), Sophie Sisler (1), Amber Clarke (1), and Alexis Maddy (1). The Polson girls played extremely well and showcased the best soccer that they have ever played against some very strong teams. The Polson team is now 10-3-2 this season and plays their next games on Saturday, May 14 in Helena.

The first game of the weekend was against a tough southern Idaho team, BYSL Xtreme Wood and the Polson girls came away with a 2-2 draw. Polson started off the scoring with a quick 2 goal lead off of goals from Sarah Howell in the 10th minute (assisted by Annie Liddle Broberg) and Ashlee Howell in the 12th minute (assisted by Brenna Clarke). BYSL battled back and scored two goals on Polson to tie up the game.

On Saturday afternoon, Polson faced the PVSC United Edge, from Pocatello, and pulled off a 3-0 win. The first goal of the game came from Michelle Terry off of a cross in the 35th minute (assisted by Sarah Howell). Goals in the 68th minute by Sarah Howell (assisted by Ashlee Howell) and 70th minute by Ashlee Howell (assisted by Amber Clarke) sealed the deal.

On Sunday morning, the Polson FC girls took down the defending tournament champions, the Utah Surf, 3-0. With the first half nearing its end, Sarah Howell put the ball in the net in the 36th minute and 38th minute, assisted by Alexis Maddy and Ashlee Howell respectively. Polson held onto the lead and Rachel Maddy scored the team’s final goal in the 75th minute (assisted by Sophie Sisler) to clench the win.

The Polson girls finished off the tournament with 2-0 victory over the Twin Falls Rapids. A quick goal in the 2nd minute by Alexis Maddy (assisted by Ashlee Howell) gave Polson the early lead. With both teams exhausted, the Polson girls battled through and found the back of the net for a second time in the 56th minute with a goal from Ashlee Howell (assisted by Sarah Howell).
