There is life beyond the grave
In America, about 2.5 million people die every year; 1 million die a sudden death. 2,600 Americans expect to be alive tomorrow, they will not.
I attended a memorial this past week for a friend I had know for more than 65 years. We had talked and prayed together a few days before her passing. She was confident of life beyond the grave. It occurred to me that that might not be true for the 2,599 others who passed that day. JESUS provides confidence. “There is no other name under heaven by which we much be saved” (Acts 4:12).
From the world’s most famous Book, is this line; “Suddenly two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking with Jesus. They were glorious to see. And they were speaking about his exodus from this world, which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem” (Luke 9:30-31 NLT).
Wow! These two guys had ‘passed’ hundreds of years before this event and now show up in spectacular splendor, fully aware of what is taking place on earth. They are not angelic. They don’t have wings. They appear ‘human’ and come and go at will, much as Jesus did after his resurrection. And perhaps most amazing of all, they seem to be fully aware of the events that are taking place on earth. Do you suppose that could be true of all those who have passed and are still quite aware of us and of world events today? These fellows are not walking and talking in their sleep and just happen to meet at the same place at the same time, contemplating the same things that Jesus and three of his disciples are considering while mountain climbing.
You see, the Bible guided and guarded teaching on life after death, not only by stating it, but by showing it, as in the sudden reappearance of Moses and Elijah. These two dead men graphically demonstrate how concerned heaven is in redemption, the salvation of humankind.
