Flathead Lake Rockskipping Championships May 28

| May 19, 2016 9:39 AM

The second annual Flathead Lake Rockskipping Championships hosted by Polson’s Cove Deli and Pizza, will be held May 28 at Riverside Park.

Organizers plan to continue the fun-filled and challenging event it began last year by offering a variety of age groups in which to compete.

Last year’s games featured groups split into male and female, 12 years old and younger and 13 years old and older.

Kevin Avison, of the Cove Deli and Pizza came up with event idea last year and organized the first-ever championships with friend Mike Lozar of Polson.

“We were really pleased with the turn out,” Lozar said after last year’s event. “It is a fun, family-oriented event, and the response was great.”

A small participation fee that totaled roughly $280 was donated to Mission Valley Ice Association, Lozar said.

The inaugural rockskipping championships took place under rainy skies in 2015, something Lozar hoped would change for this year’s event.

On June 3, the Cove Deli and Pizza will host a free “Welcome to Summer” concert in front of its restaurant.

The Wench, a band featuring John McLellan and Josh Keehr of Bozeman will perform.
