Polson 1, Columbia Falls 1

At Polson’s Homecoming game on Saturday, the host Lady Pirates and the visiting Wildkats scratched and clawed the duration of an intense match that would result in a draw. Newly christened Homecoming Queen Tiara Duford executed the first decree of her reign by raining a lob into the net for her 21st goal of the season off a delectable dish from Amber Clarke to stake the home team with the lead. But shortly after halftime, Pirate plans to maintain the margin would crumble into Ashe when Kat Kaylee would notch the equalizer off an assist from runs like the wind freshman Josie Windauer, the niece of Polson dentist Michael Windauer.

Both teams had their share of opportunities thereafter, but were unable to cash in. Lady Pirate on-frame salvos included a pair of direct kicks by Olivia Hewston along with clobbers from Duford, Amber Clarke and Hannah Kasnitz. But none would leave their mark among the litter of the Kat box.

The most vulnerable moment for Polson involved a clowder of Kats on the doorstep of the Polson goal midway through the second half that included Wildkats Hannah Gedlaman, Hannah Callendar, Macey Sandefur along with Windauer. Consecutive Kat kicks either deflected off the knee of Hewston, got blocked by Marina Mayorga or denied by Amber Clarke until Lady Pirate keeper Jenna Evertz could secure the ball from further abuse. Polson outshot Columbia Falls by a 2:1 margin, but most of their salvos were kept manageable for the keeper.

The figurative sword of the break even outcome would hold a double-edge. At one end, capturing the regular schedule series (win+tie) over Columbia Falls was a historic first for the Lady Pirate soccer program. But at the other end, the sharp blade would sever Polson’s chances for capturing the conference crown in the event they were to prevail over Whitefish on Tuesday during Senior Night. Polson (4-1-1, 7-2-1) will close out the regular schedule at Libby on Thursday.

Polson 5, Bigfork 0

At Polson this past Thursday, the Lady Pirates swept the second game of their “Battle of the Bays” series against the Bigfork Valkyries with senior striker Tiara Duford notching her sixth multi-goal scoring outing of the season.

In the era of abbreviated text lingo, Polson players made sure they showered plenty of LoL on visiting Val senior keeper Celeste Rehbein, a former Polson resident. Only in this case, the acronym translated into launching loads of lobs rather than lavishing with lots of love.

A quartet of different Polson players would finish their feats of the foot with finesse. Senior defender Olivia Hewston led off the parade with a direct kick that acquired its target to tussle the twine. Ashlee Howell would strike next off a feed from Marina Mayorga. Duford would tally a tandem before Amber Clarke would add the frosting to the cake with able assistance from Howell.

Lady Pirate senior keeper Jenna Evertz would preserve the shutout with another masterful performance defending her real estate from trespassers and incursions.

Polson (4-1, 7-2) enters the crucible of a pair of crucial contests with the conference crown at stake along with playoff seeding.
