ARLEE — The Arlee High School Scarlets are preparing for their post-season play when they host seven teams in the Class C District Tournament at Arlee High School.

The Scarlets finished their regular-season finale by dropping three consecutive games and losing the match to Charlo Lady Vikings (15-25, 18-25, 19-25) Thursday night at Charlo High School.

Scarlets’ Coach Lonie Morin says one of the keys in order for her team to be successful in this highly competitive District that start Friday at Arlee High School will play without hesitation.

“We have to stay strong and aggressive and we can’t back off, which is what we preached in practice all week,” Morin said. “(Districts) can be more of a marathon and this year it’s going to be more lax with less teams. All day the competition is harsh. This year, I don’t think it’s quite as bad but I expect everyone in this tournament to bring their best.”

This year, the No. 1 seed will be Plains High School. Plains, a team that came down from Class B last season, has been tough, according to Morin.

“Plains is just a good team and they are a good volleyball town,” Morin said. “They are a good team, they are organized. they have a nice coach and are fun to play. They have a couple of big hitters and they are quick.”

The No. 3 seeded team in the District will be the Charlo Lady Vikings.

“They can get in your head because they are so quick and the outside hitters are quick,” Morin said. “They are fast and have a have a few fast middles. Their height is deceiving. They have jumping ability like no ones business. Caitlyn Cox looks small but jumps higher than some of my six footers. It’s harder for them to judge having to jump higher and quicker. Coach Cammie Evenson has them trained well. They are good and will do well (at districts).”

St. Regis, a team that received a No. 4 seed at the Arlee Districts, is considered one of the “scrappier teams,” according to Morin.

“We’ve never had much trouble with St. Regis,” Morin said. “They were able to score against us. They are hard workers and they will take some sets (in Districts).”

Other teams include No. 5-seeded Noxen, No. 6-seeded Hot Springs, and No. 7-seeded Two Eagle.

“Hot Springs is improving and they took a game from us 26-24,” Morin said. “They have a decent bench and some players that can do some things.”
