AUDUBON EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
“A Harlequin Romance” by John Ashley will be Mission Mountain Audubon’s educational program on Monday, 22 May at 7 p.m. in the Polson Library Meeting Room.
Join professional photographer and wildlife biologist John Ashley as he follows Montana’s mysterious harlequin ducks through their annual cycle, from coastal salt water habitats to Montana’s mountain streams and back again to the ocean. Where do “Montana’s” harlequins spend the rest of their lives when they’re not nesting here? How do breeding adults know where Montana is at? How do juvenile harlequins born in Montana know where the coast is at? How do pairs find each other when they reunite on the coast? And how did we learn what we know about this rare and secretive native duck? We’ll explore all of these questions and more through story-telling with 25 years worth of video and photos, a soggy set of waders and a dry sense of humor.

PACHYDERM CLUB TO MEET
Those of us living in western Montana may think our communities are far removed from the problems of sex trafficking. Grace Manchala, featured speaker at the Friday, May 26 meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club, will prove this is not the case. She has worked as an anti-trafficking activist in Montana since 2013 and was instrumental in the passage of a bill through the 2013 Montana legislature that increased the legal age a teenager is considered a victim. Since 2004, she has counseled sex traffic victims and collaborated and coordinated with pastors, lawyers, law enforcement and the families of victims in several Asian countries and the U.S. to raise awareness of the reality of this issue.
The meeting will be held at the Polson Rural Fire Department building on Regatta Road near the fairgrounds beginning at noon and adjourning at 1 p.m. Anyone interested in learning about this societal threat is welcome to attend.
MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
Polson’s Memorial Day Parade will be held Monday, May 29, beginning at 6th Avenue and Main Street at noon.
