Mission Valley high school sports teams have strong week
Since the start of the season, Chiefs’ Coach Matt Olson has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to be a state-contending team.
Ronan was led by Fisher Niemeyer, who fired a team leading 80 that was a key component to the Chiefs finishing second in the tournament.
Ronan also received helped from Anthony Camel, who shot an 84 on the day. Other scores included Chance Denault (96), Caden Rhine (110), and Andreas Smallstrom (137) on the day.
Neimeyer was the team’s top individual placer finishing 13th.
Olson captures third at Plains
Ronan’s Brooklyn Olson finished third and fired a 96 on the course Saturday at the Plains Invitational.
Olson finished behind Loyola golfers Kylie Esh, who finished first by firing a 72, and Katie Fagg, who shot an 85 on the course.
Other Maidens’ golfers that didn’t place include Gabby Wirz (124), and Kim Van Derlaan (143).
Softball
Maidens softball falls to Columbia Falls
The Ronan softball team lost its second consecutive outing and fell to Columbia Falls 21-0.
The Maidens were defeated in their season opening game against Libby 23-2.
With the loss, Ronan now falls to 0-2 on the season.
Track
Pirates track excel at Frenchtown Invite
The Polson Pirates track endured the inclimate weather to have solid individuals excel at the Frenchtown Invitational Saturday at Frenchtown High School.
“It was kind of an eventful day as far as weather goes and it was a big meet with a lot of schools,” Pirates’ distance coach Matt Seeley said. “Because of the weather, the meet was moving fairly slowly. We had finished the 1,600 and just started the first heat of the 800 when we had this horrible rain and wind. They just canceled everything after that.”
Seeley is getting production from several of the cross country standouts he coached this past fall.
Polson’s Bea Frissell won the 1,600-meter with a time of 5 minutes, 35.32 seconds.
“Bea had a good race against really good competition,” Seeley said. “She is starting out really strong and several of the other girls on our team ran well.”
In the boys 800-meter dash, Quin Stewart finished with a time of 2 minutes, 22.02 seconds. Matthew Rensvold finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.12 seconds.
Hergett captures first in the 100-meter hurdles
Arlee High School track star Carly Hergett finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.67 seconds.
Hergett also finished fourth in the triple-jump with a jump of 33 feet, 6 inches.
Hergett’s teammate Natalie Yocum finished second in the 800-meter dash Thursday at the Florence-Darby Invitational.
Yocum, finished second in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2 minutes, 30.25 seconds, finished second in the 1,600-meter dash with a time of 5 minutes, 41.00 seconds, and was part of the Arlee relay team (Carly Hergett, Bryndle Goyins, Shawntaya Nelson, Ashley Revis) that finished with a time of 53.47 seconds.
Lady Vikings’ Delaney captures first in 400
Charlo Lady Vikings Allie Delaney finished first in the 300-meter dash Thursday at Florence-Darby Invitational.
Delaney finished the 300-meter dash with a time of 49.24.7 seconds to capture the victory.
