Spring has finally arrived! Birds are singing, flowers are blooming and we are celebrating National Library Week! During National Library Week (April 9-15), we will offer our “Food for Fines” program. If you have a few nagging library fines, this is your chance to clear them up. For each item of food brought in, we will waive $1 of your fines (not applicable to lost or damaged materials). All food will be donated to the Polson Loaves and Fish Food Pantry. Also during National Library Week, we will have an expanded book sale in the library. We always have our book sale corner, but during this week, we will also have DVDs for sale! The first week of May we will have a special book sale during Children’s Book Week, featuring books for children through young adult.
On April 18, our tech specialist, Heather, will hold a class on Internet Security. Representatives from First Interstate Bank will present information on counterfeit currency, how to identify Internet fraud, as well as several other topics during the 2 p.m. session of that class. First Interstate Bank is joining us in presenting on this important topic in conjunction with Money Smart Week. Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. We will also have a display of children’s picture books with parent guides that help adults talk to kids about money. The guides will continue to be available throughout the year.
On March 30, our library director, Marilyn Trosper, was awarded the Honorary Life Membership award by the Montana Library Association. Marilyn has been the director at the North Lake County Public Library for nearly 30 years. She has done some amazing things for librarianship in Montana, including working on the formation of the Montana Shared Catalog and Partners Sharing Group. She succeeded in creating a library district for Polson and is passionate about her career. The staff was honored to nominate Marilyn for this award and we are thrilled that she won! Stop in and congratulate Marilyn on this extraordinary accomplishment!
