Heidi Van Diest wins huckleberry baking contest

During the 36th annual Swan Lake Huckleberry Festival this last Saturday, adults and children baked their best and brought the results to be judged during the Festival Baking Contest. All contest entries had to be huckleberry based, but there the comparisons ended. The contest featured everything from cupcakes to pies, cookies and cakes.
In the Children’s division, the winners were:
·1st Place – Atti Pena, age 9 – Lemon Cake with Huckleberry Sauce
·2nd Place – Cooper Laslovich, age 8 – Huckleberry Muffins
·3rd Place – Jackson O’Connell, age 2 – Huckleberry Cobbler. (According to his mom, Jackson did everything except put it in the oven.)
In the Adult division, the winners were:
·1st Place – Heidi Van Diest – Chocolate Huckleberry Mousse Cake
·2nd Place – Wendy Waite – Chocolate Huckleberry Pie
·3rd Place – Isabelle Webb – Cookies a la Huckleberry
Held at the Swan Lake Day Park, the Huckleberry Festival is the annual fundraiser for the Swan Lake Chamber and Community Club. Funds raised support the Swan Lake Clubhouse and community projects such as the new Welcome to Swan Lake sign north of the village.
